Big Lottery - Groundworks and Club House Extension

Image
We're halfway through our developments thanks to the support of the Big Lottery and Falmouth Town Council. The installation of more taps and improved groundworks to the entrance to A site, including an improved picnic area in front of the clubhouse have now been completed. These have received very positive comments from society members. The clubhouse extension has been completed, again to much praise for the contractor Don Ashworth. Thanks to the Friday Morning Team for applying the preservative. Many, many thanks also to Abi, Shirley, Andrea, Zoe and John for decorating the ceiling. It really makes it our special place. It has already been put to good use in entertaining the judges for the National Britain in Bloom judging.

An invitation was issued to allotments in the Falmouth area from The Stithians Show Secretary and the sponsoring local solicitors, Hine Downing to enter a new class at the Stithians Show this year. Big Lottery - Fundings Has Arrived!

The Big Lottery has now transferred the funding of £7,500 to enable us improve our site and facilities. The generous support of Falmouth Town Council of £1,000; Falmouth Fire Station with £250 and Marlborough School with £100 is also very much appreciated. The support of the Town Council gave great credibility to our bid.

Falmouth Town Council Generously Supports The Allotments

The Town Clerk, Mr Mark Williams, informed the committee that Falmouth Town Council provided awards for worthy causes. So it was decided to submit a bid for £1000 towards the replacement school and community shed, the extra taps, the groundworks to A site, improved security and extending the clubhouse. These are all items in our current Big Lottery bid. The council agreed to support these fully which is great news and shows the great strength of support for our allotments amongst our local councillors. This generous act should hopefully impress the Awards for All, Big Lottery officials and enable us to secure funding that will make an enormous difference to our allotments. Article in Falmouth Packet 20 March 2013 Article in The West Briton 20 March 2013 Falmouth Fire Service Also Supports Our Allotments Following the successful fireworks display of last November, the Fire Station crew were able to offer awards for community projects. Tomato Grafting - Action Research Opportunity

Do you want to boost your tomato crop and improve the yield and quality of your produce? Richard Viner (John Muir's Associate Member) has many years of experience in horticulture around the world. He is kindly inviting society members to take part in a research programme in which tomatoes are grafted onto a rootstock. Richard is happy to purchase the rootstock seed and special clips, and hopes that as many members who are interested will be able to produce some grafted plants using their own variety as the scion to compare with existing lines on their own roots. No expense from members except a little work and good luck- surgery is never perfect, the odd loss can be expected.  Information and contact details are available.... Tomato Grafting Proposal
